A short list of software, hardware and services I've found to be useful. Inspired by uses.tech.
Software:
- Notion - an excellent note taking / project management app.
- Toggl - simple time tracking.
- Firefox - my browser of choice since around version 0.7.
- Chocolatey - a package manager for Windows.
- Geany - simple text editor / IDE for both Windows and Linux.
- Ditto - I can't imagine life without a clipboard manager - this one is for Windows.
- CopyQ - clipboard manager for Linux.
- Capture One - photo editor with excellent support for Fuji raw files.
- Davinci Resolve - very powerful video editor.
- Reaper - an excellent audio editor.
- OBS Studio - open-source program for recording screencasts.
- Home Assistant - I run HA as a Docker container on my NAS and use it for home automation.
Hardware:
- My custom built PC - will probably get a new GPU soon.
- Das Keyboard - I actually have 2 of these keyboards - one Ultimate and one Professional.
- Synology NAS - I have the older 4-bay DS-412+.
- Fujifilm X-T3 - used to use Canon DSLR's but switched to Fujifilm a few years ago.
- Sony MDR-7506 - still the standard for simple, studio-quality headphones.
- Samson Q2U - a cheap but solid dynamic microphone for podcasting.
- Asus mesh routers - I use 2 of these to cover my apartment, though I use ethernet for static devices.
- Makita tools - not PC related, but I settled on Makita for battery powered tools.
- Everki backpack - I spent quite some time (spreadsheets were involved) looking for a good backpack and am quite happy with an Everki model.
- Kindle - My personal goal is to read 24 books a year, 95% of this is on my Kindle which I use practically every day.
Services:
- Linode - my favorite webhost and cloud platform, cheap and reliable.
- Backblaze - I backup my Synology NAS to Backblaze B2.
- Feedly - RSS is still my favorite way of keeping up with things.
- Interactive Brokers - a good on-line broker for people from the EU.
